On Belonging

Waving palm fronds may
Shade her brow today but
No matter where she goes
Her toes are sunk deep
In the red clay of Georgia.
Once you’ve lived there
It is in you always.

Sounds very nice, rings true.
Sounds like you’re up to your ankles in it - I like the way you’ve rhymed this..
Very nice! I believe it!
I can certainly relate to that sense of belonging
I believe we all have a deep connection to the land we are born in or on. You can never erase this from your soul… great work
It feels sustaining and good, this clay. Great poem.
Belonging is always where the heart is, even if the feet walk somewhere else!

I love: “No matter where she goes
Her toes are sunk deep
In the red clay of Georgia.”
Great words
Really liked this, sums up belonging very well.
The last two lines are very beautiful
I find it interesting how we carry our past with us into the present everywhere . . .
A grounded, earthy poem. And i can attest to its truth, coming from Georgia!
