I’ve seen how the warmth returns,
When crocuses push through the frozen ground,
Their fragile spring-green arms raised parallel
To one another in their hopeful reaching for the sun
In answer to the earth’s mysterious call.
I’ve watched children on the playground
Toss a dodge ball back and forth -
Give it just one bounce and then it’s safe,
Gently cradled in your partner’s hands.
Then a moment later it’s careening back,
Doomed to strike the pavement yet again,
But once more it will rise up from its lowest point
And so will we, so will we.

Three Word Wednesday prompt: parallel, bounce, mysterious

Beautifully done! An inspiration for sure!
For a moment I thought you were going to have that ball bounce on and crush that crocus. But it’s not that kind of poem, I guess.
We will, we will and with a bushel of hope!
what an absolutely prophetic verse… i loved the ending… it made it feel like it was an age old wisdom being revealed… just lovely….
The message of hope flowed well throughout.
Enjoyed the read.
Good morning, Thisgirlremembers! Your poem has a strong message of hope and strength which I think everyone needs from time to time. Your words are always well crafted and beautiful. Thanks for sharing them with us.
Yes, hope and strength, it is lovely and just what I needed to read today. The gentle rhyme scheme is very effective too, trademark you.
I like the line about being doomed to strike the pavement again… isn’t that the truth
Great analogy between seasons, children’s games, and the resilience of the human spirit. Beautiful writing.
…beautiful post… i feel so much better abt tomorrow…heck abt right now… thank you for placing a perfect poem…
