Taking some time each day just for me – just to explore who I am and who I want to become, or more truthfully, time to simply live into myself, touch that center of joy and wonder at the mystery of our world. That’s all. Think I can manage it?
So since I’m a high-techish sort of girl, and know myself well enough to know that I’ll be much more likely to stick with it if I make a public commitment in some fashion, and since I’m NOT one who likes to make a big fuss over myself I thought I’d create myself a little corner of the web where I can be as outlandish or boring as I like, safe inside a little cocoon of a pseudonym. Though I think it would be charming if someone from my “real” life found me here, and I really don’t think I’d mind, it feels better right now not to shout my name for the world to hear – I also know myself well enough to know that I’m a pretty private person, and at least to start it feels safer to be moderately anonymous. I’ll be more able to be honest in my writing and my thinking and whatever other woo-woo stuff I end up doing here.
So for a beginning I’ve decided to plan a different activity/practice for each day of the week, so I don’t sit on my bum wondering what to do with myself. I need that structure. And, oh lucky day, The Internet has done it for me – I’ve found a number of lovely blogs and sites that have ready-made prompts for me to piggyback on. So here goes:
Sunday – Creative Challenge Day (via Create a Connection)
Monday – Writing Day – Fiction (use daily writing prompt from Toasted Cheese)
Tuesday – Self Portrait Tuesday (via Self Portrait Challenge)
Wednesday – Getting to Know You Day (via Create a Connection)
Thursday – Poetry Thursday, Photo Thursday (via Create a Connection)
Friday – Cat blogging (via Carnival of the Cats), Creative Nonfiction/general blogging?
Saturday –Photoshop Day
It is my intention to do these things daily, but when (not if, I know) I miss a day here and there, I will not kick myself, will not feel guilt – this is not about making myself feel bad, after all. And I’ll certainly edit my weekly plan as I feel inspired to do so.
And I’m already going off schedule, just to make it very clear (to myself) that this is entirely within the rules!
There’s a lovely writing prompt over at Poetic Asides that I’ve decided to try out today. The instructions are to make a list of responses to “I’m writing to find…” Then we’re to put the list aside for a couple of days, then come back to it and use the one that you find most intriguing as a prompt for writing poetry. Will do!
I’m writing to find the girl I used to be.
I’m writing to find myself.
I’m writing to find my center.
I’m writing to find beauty – in language, syntax and meaning.
I’m writing to find out what I’m truly capable of creating.
I’m writing to find the small still voice within.
I’m writing to find joy.
I’m writing to find old memories and friends who are hiding in forgotten corners of my mind.
I’m writing to find a sense of balance in my life.
I’m writing to find those fascinating characters whose lives I want to peek in on.
I’m writing to find lost pieces of my personality, and to draw them out so I can look at them.
I’m writing to find a sense of well-being and accomplishment.
I’m writing to find things to laugh about.
I’m writing to find a connection to the mystery.
I’m writing to find something true.
I’m writing to find something fantastical.
I’m writing to find the Janet voice – my quiet center.
I’m writing to find things I knew once but have forgotten.
I’m writing to find something larger than my one small life.
I’m writing to find time to write.
I’m writing to find those words that I know are in me, waiting to be called forth.
I’m writing to find my calling.

So I discovered you by accident . . . . over at Create a Connection. And I had to follow the trail to find out a bit about you, and I see that this is the beginning. I stopped by to offer encouragement and courage to come forth and find all that you are seeking. My journey has brought me to our little blogging community as well, and I have made so many treasured “friends” in this, my “cyber life.” Welcome, and I wish you many warm and embracing encounters as you travel along.
